Priorswood Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of our pupils and expects all adults working in school, staff and volunteers, to share this commitment. For detailed information please see our Child Protection Policy (see link below).
Sometimes we may need to share information and work with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We ensure concerns are discussed with parents/carers first unless there is reason to believe this would be contrary to a child’s welfare.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Suzanne King.
Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL) are Steve Morton and Lucy Davis.
The Cabot Learning Federation Safeguarding Lead is Steve Bane.
If you have a concern about a child, you may consult the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead or deputy who will be able to look into the matter and decide if action is required to ensure the child’s safety and wellbeing. Either can be contacted by phone 01823 284897 or email info@pps.clf.uk
If you believe a child may be at immediate risk of harm, you may make a referral to Somerset Children’s Social Care on 0300 123 2224.
Statutory guidance from the Department of Education set out what schools must do to comply with the law.
Our Safeguarding policy has been written in response to the current version of Keeping Children Safe in Education. Our policy is reviewed annually, however we are continually reviewing our procedures in light of any new guidance and local issues that arise.
Prevent is part of the United Kingdom’s counter terrorism strategy. It aims to prevent people from becoming involved in terrorism or supporting terrorism. At Priorswood Primary School, the Prevent strategy is part of our wider safeguarding duties.
We have a duty to protect children from radicalisation and extremism. As part of their education, children will learn about different religions and cultures as we believe the best way of preventing extremism and radicalisation is by increasing understanding of each other.
All school staff and the academy council have received WRAP (Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent) training. This training means that all adults in school understand Prevent’s aims, have considered who may be vulnerable to radicalisation, understand why some people may be able to influence and manipulate others and can recognise when a child may be in need of help.
If staff have concerns that a child is at risk, the school safeguarding procedure is followed in the same way as with all safeguarding concerns. The school’s safeguarding officer then makes the decision to refer concerns to the Channel multi-agency panel.
If a parent has a concern that a pupil at Priorswood Primary School is at risk to radicalisation, please contact the Safeguarding Team.
