I have worked as a translator for 20 years supporting expats living in the UK so I have a keen interest in supporting EAL children. As link councillor for disadvantage, I work with the school to ensure the best outcomes for all children regardless of their background. I am particularly interested in improving literacy and instilling a love of reading.
I qualified as a Primary School teacher in 2013 and joined the team at Priorswood in 2019. My degree included a specialism in Early Years - an area that I am particularly passionate about. My other passion is literacy, and as part of my role as Literacy lead I am dedicated to the continuous development of the literacy curriculum and want to ensure that all children leave primary school with not only the skills that will allow them to thrive in their lives, but with a love of reading and writing too.
I am a local Taunton resident with two small children and was keen to try and make a difference to a local school.
I am a Partner in a local business in Taunton and am actively involved in promoting and supporting the school locally.
I have seen the positive difference education has made to my children's lives and want to try to help ensure Priorswood can continue to progress to support it's pupils as a great place to learn and grow.
My connection with Priorswood Primary School started when my children joined the school and therefore I applied to be a Parent Academy Councillor.
My career has been within the education sector ever since leaving university. Firstly I was a teaching assistant in a secondary school, before completing my own primary teacher training. I have previously worked for an arts education charity, as well as an adult and community learning organisation. My particular curriculum interests are maths and the arts!
My children are enjoying school and are thriving due to the dedicated leadership, teaching and support staff.
I’m a parent of 6 children, the youngest being 14 and my eldest being 26. All of which attended Priorswood Primary School. I have also worked at the school for around 5 years where I did various roles from mainly being a lunchtime supervisor, to helping out in classes and fetes and other fundraising events.
I am a grandparent of two, aged 13 months and 3 years with which I now look after so their parents can go to work. As a family we enjoy swimming and visiting different beaches and going on walks around the countryside.
I have always loved the school and my children were always happy here, so when I was asked to join the Teaching and Learning Committee I was happy and honoured to join. I have now been a member for a number of years. I am passionate about seeing and helping the school progress and provide a happy and safe place to learn and educate young minds.
